3DSOM Pro News

3DSOM Pro used to create 3D models for Museum of London website

Guildford UK, March 5 2005.

The latest addition to the Museum of London's learning web site is an interactive "Virtual Object Handling" Workshop. This web-accessible site is designed as an educational resource utilising some of the museum's historical artefacts. The 3D content was generated using 3DSOM Pro technology and is displayed using the 3DSOM Pro Java Viewer.

Three objects have been modelled so far, including a small figure with a large amount of detail that would have been hard to produce any other way. The photography was taken at the Museum of London Archaelogy Service (MoLaS). Creative Dimension Software Ltd modelling service was used to build optimised 3D content for two of the artefacts and the third model was built completely in-house using the commercially available 3DSOM product. Andy Chopping, head of photography at MoLaS told us that he had no difficulties using the 3DSOM Pro software to generate a model of a "challenging" silver guilt object.

You can view the models built by Creative Dimension Software Ltd by clicking the links on the left. The models are of a roman key and a victorian figure of a street seller. These models were then incorporated into the final interactive presentation by the design team for the project.
